Pilates & Golf Benefits:

  • Stronger and more powerful core
  • Increase in balance and stability
  • Alignment awareness
  • Increased range of motion throughout the shoulder girdle - aiding an optimal backswing and follow through
  • Increased hip and torso flexibility - helps to drive the ball farther on follow throughs
  • Decreased fatigue

Whether twisting the body on a drive, squatting down to measure a putt or leaning over to pick up a ball, golfers are constantly torquing their bodies. The repetition of the same essential movements can lead to certain muscles becoming overused and others being underused, causing an imbalance that can impede their game going forwards and their lifestyle. For a golfer, muscle imbalances can affect every aspect of the body. Drives may be shorter and less accurate, stamina may decrease, and the potential for debilitating strains, pulls and tears becomes much higher.

The pilates reformer is one piece of equipment that specifically aids golfers. It resembles a massage table that's stacked upon springs and moves forwards and backwards. The platform, called the "carriage," slides back and forth using cables and springs and the resistance can be adjusted to make moving it harder or easier. The reformer provides a safe way to increase flexibility, gain strength and aid stability, for golfers.

Our core muscles are highly utilized in any Pilates, as are most shots in golf. Pilates strengthens the core, shoulders and your pelvis. Through Pilates core strength will be increased and will improve hip rotation, range of motion in the shoulders and back stability leading to more powerful and accurate golf shots. After each session you'll feel more flexible, symmetrical with your muscle balance and strengthened from the inside out. Many golfers - from weekend warriors to the game’s elite like Tiger Woods - are turning to Pilates as an essential training tool that keeps the body in balance and actually improves performance.
